Learn women's history on your phone, one story at a time
Short illustrated lessons, quick questions and certificates.
HerLegacy is an app that teaches history through the lives of remarkable women, one short story at a time, from scientists like Marie Curie to activists like Wangari Maathai and rulers like Hatshepsut.
Every lesson is short and illustrated. You read a little, answer a quick question, see right away if it stuck, and move on. There is no long video to sit through and no heavy textbook to get lost in. A few minutes on the bus or in a queue is enough to meet someone worth knowing, and every story is built on published sources, with the origin of each picture shown in the app.
You set the rhythm. If you like, the app can invite you to a new story about once a week, at the time of day you choose, and you can turn that off whenever you want. Short stories read at your own pace are easy to keep up with, so coming back feels natural.
Each course is the story of one woman, told in order, so you follow her life from where it began to what she left behind. The women are gathered in areas of knowledge, from mathematics, physics and medicine to literature, the arts, education, faith, leadership, war and social change, so you can start with a woman you already know or with a subject you love. A map gathers the places of the stories you read, and you do not need to know anything about history to begin.
By the end of a story you will know what she did, what it cost her and what it made possible for others. And when you complete an area of knowledge, you earn a certificate of completion to keep and share.
Learning history does not need a classroom or a long afternoon. It needs a good story, a few minutes and a reason to be curious. That is what HerLegacy is built to be.
